Thanks for your interest in our health system.

On 1 July 2022 Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand and Te Aka Whai Ora – Māori Health Authority became Aotearoa’s new national health authorities and Waikato District Health Board as an entity was disestablished and became part of Health New Zealand. 

Health New Zealand and the Māori Health Authority have their own governance structures, therefore DHB Boards and Advisory Committees ceased to operate on 30 June 2022.

Waikato Health Trust

The broad purpose of the trust is to support the provision of health and disability services within the area served by the Waikato District Health Board.

Our history

The first meeting of the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, the forerunner to Waikato District Health Board, was held on 1 December 1886.

Between then and now there have been a number of different names and types of organisations overseeing district health services in New Zealand, including hospital boards, Crown Health Entities (CHEs), and more recently district health boards (DHBs).

Community Oral Health provides FREE oral health services for eligible children residing in the Waikato District Health Board area.
