What is the benefit of having a video appointment compared to seeing a clinician in person?

Patients will still have the option to choose an in-person appointment over a video appointment. The benefits of video appointments for patients include:  

Saving time by not having to travel
Not requiring you or your whānau to take time off work
Saving money on travel expenses and the hassle of parking
Whānau can join your appointment from the comfort of your own home

How to access your video appointment using a browser on a desktop/laptop

Open the email message from the hospital, click on 'Join Video Appointment' link (if you have not received the appointment invite in your email, remember to also check in your Junk/Spam folder)
Enter your date of birth and tick the 'I'm not a robot' box then click the 'Start appointment'

Preparing for the video appointment

After your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an email with the link to access your video appointment

There are a few things you can do to get ready ahead of your appointment. Your whānau may be able to help you with these if you're unsure: 

Write down the questions you want to ask your clinician/health provider
You also need to make sure you know how to use your device and that the camera (for video) and microphone/speakers (for sound) are working

How to access your video appointment using the Microsoft Teams app on a mobile device

Day of appointment

Please have the following with you on the day of your appointment:

a list of current medicines you take or have them with you
a pen and paper to write down any advice or other information
any letters relating to your condition and details of any ACC claim (if your appointment is injury related)
a support person (if you would like one)
your glasses (if you wear them).

After treatment

Follow-up appointment
Once you have completed radiation therapy treatment you will be given a follow-up appointment with your Radiation Oncologist/Registrar.
