How will GP services know if their patient has been seen and treated under the MidCPG programme?

All patients swabbed and treated under the MidCPG programme who have a POSITIVE GAS result will have a summary of their result and treatment details faxed to their GP.

Please ensure that each GP practice has internal processes for entry of this data onto their systems.  It is important that this data is held so a record can be kept of the frequency of GAS episodes and the treatment that patients receive.

If you need a blood transfusion

If a blood transfusion is needed, then patient blood management means the transfusion is safe and patients are given only what they need. 
Your healthcare professional should explain transfusion risks, benefits and any alternatives that are available to you. Feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns.
We have clear processes for patients who, for religious or other reasons, refuse blood transfusions. Please let us know as soon as possible, so we can discuss options with you.

What training and orientation will I receive?

Prior to commencing as a volunteer at Waikato DHB you will be invited to attend a training session. This is usually a morning session lasting approximately three hours (depending on group size).

Our training covers such topics as:

patient rights
health and safety - infection control
volunteer standards and expectations
wayfinding around the hospital
privacy and confidentiality
emergency procedures - security
event/incident reporting
relevant hospital policy.
