Sue HaywardSue is the Director of Nursing & Midwifery for the Waikato District Health Board.  She reports to the Chief Executive, and provides leadership, advice and direction to nurses and midwives across the DHB via various structures and communication channels.

Working in partnership with the Chief Medical Advisor and the Health Waikato Chief Operating Officer, the six patient safety priorities and the implementation of the organisation’s strategic goals remains her main focus.  This is done by creating an environment in which professionally astute, knowledgeable and skilled nurses and midwives are able to understand the goals and carry out good, safe patient care.

Sue currently chairs:
  • Waikato DHB Nursing & Midwifery Directorate team.
  • Aged Related Residential Care and DHB Quality Forum.
  • Midlands Cancer Co-Coordinators’ Forum.
  • Patient Safety Programme Board.
  • Productive Wards Programme.

Sue is a member of:
  • The Waikato DHB Executive Group.
  • Health Waikato Executive Group Provider arm for Waikato DHB.
  • Board of Clinical Governance.
  • Medicines & Therapeutics Committee.
  • Medication Safety Forum.
  • Waikato DHB Clinical Governance External Group.
  • Infection Control Committee.

Sue is involved with a number of workforce development groups, both regionally and nationally, as well as being a member of Nurse Executives New Zealand and the Lead DHB Directors of Nursing Group.
