Health Targets

Health targets are what the Government judges DHB performance on more than any other.

What we are doing to improve our performance

Waikato DHB has prepared a 30-60-90 day plan to improve performance against the 6 hour acute target, which is proving one of the hardest for it to achieve.

The plan focuses on three main areas that drive performance - pre-hospital demand, Emergency Department and front door sub-specialty processing, and bed management and patient transfer.

The full plan is outlined in a recent paper presented to the Board
(9 November Board Meeting, Agenda item 6.5).

A number of actions have already been undertaken
  • A Change Team has been set up consisting of senior doctors, registrars and management staff charged with reducing the non-therapeutic delays experienced by patients presenting at Waikato Hospital. The group meets fortnightly and is finalising its work programme;
  • A review team from Auckland DHB was invited to review work to date and perceived issues and provide feedback on the plan.
  • The Ministry of Health Shorter stays in ED team has visited and inspected the new ED and were pleased with progress since their visit 12 months ago.
  • A communications strategy for staff is underway including news-sheets, discussion sheet, regular 'blogs' and target updates on the the staff intranet, posters etc.

The 30-60-90 day plan will adapt and develop in response to circumstances.
