Examples of regional collaboration include: the establishment of the Midland Cancer Network, and investigating solutions to rationalise ‘back office’ and corporate support systems.
The Midland DHBs chairs recently appointed Erica Holtsbaum as project manager for the Midland Regional Co-Operation Project and Cathy Taylor to the position of programme manager for clinical networks.
They report to HealthShare chief executive Andrew Boyd. HealthShare is the Midland DHBs' shared services agency. Originally it provided the audit functions of hospital care, rest home care and residential disability care for the five Midland DHBs. It now also takes on regional functions including clinical networks for stroke, renal, maternity and rural health, radiology, cardiology and health of older people and elective services.
Waikato provides the tertiary services (such as neurosurgery and other highly complex surgery, specialised medical procedures and specialist trauma services) to the regional population of 848,311.
Through Waikato Hospital, Waikato DHB offers specialist diagnostic treatment services to the whole of the Midland region.
