INCIDENT UPDATE 8
Revised password instructions for all staff

When you try to log in to your computer or laptop from today, it will either be off or on ctrl-alt-del.

  • If it is on ctrl-alt-del, press ctrl-alt-del and then shutdown to turn your computer off
  • turn your computer back on
  • log in using your log in and old password
  • you will be prompted for a new password
  • it must have eight characters
  • you must have at least one uppercase letter, one lower case letter, one number between 0-9 and/or a special character such as !@#$%^&*()_+
  • do not use your old password, create a new one
  • once logged in, you can continue to use your existing Groupwise, iPM and Plato log ins and passwords
  • do NOT put a USB memory stick or external hard drive into your computer or laptop until further notice.

If you have any problems, please call the IS service desk on ext 7899

You will need to change your password every 60 days.

Wellington, Dec 19 NZPA - The Waikato District Health Board expects to have all of its computers working again by Monday, after its systems were crippled by a computer worm.

The emergency management team led by incident controller Kevin Harris managed the response to the Conficker virus which attacked Waikato District Health Board's 3000 computers. Here they are pictured at various times during the crisis.

Parts of the Waikato District Health Board (DHB) computer system, struck down by a virus early yesterday, are back on line today -- but the whole system is not likely to be operating again until Monday.

Answers to your HR questions

1. If staff are unable to do their usual work and there are no other duties available:
  • no special leave or “days off” shall be granted
  • annual leave, including half days, may be offered
  • discuss with staff to see if they are prepared to work in alternative areas. If yes, contact Nadine Shaw, Operations Centre, 021 227 6641
2. People on collective agreements will get paid as per their agreement. Waikato DHB will ensure there is no financial disadvantage through swapping shifts.

3. Staff on IEAs will receive normal hourly rate. For additional work they will receive time and a half.

4. Staff wanting to work in alternative areas must seek authorisation from their line manager.

5. Any additional hours worked will be paid out in the New Year.

NO MORE EXTERNAL DEVICES

There are to be no external devices – memory sticks or hard drives – used from now on in PCs or laptops. This is
very important to prevent reinfection. No exceptions.

RETURN ALL LAPTOPS TO SERVICE DESK

We must have all laptop computers cleansed. If they are not connected to the network, we need them sent to IS.

PAYROLL NEXT WEEK

We will pay staff next week – you will at least get what your previous pay was. New staff will also be paid.

NEW PASSWORD INSTRUCTIONS

Your old password has been set to expire immediately. When the system goes back up you must create a new complex password that will be very difficult to guess or ‘crack’.

Apply the instructions below when you create a password.

All passwords
Length of password: must be a minimum of 8 (eight) characters.

Additionally
The password must be changed at least every 60 days. You will receive a reminder 14 days before a password is due to expire.

Once created, you must keep a password for a minimum of five days before you can change it again. Each new password must be different from the six previously use passwords.

Please call the IS Service Desk ext 7899 if you experience difficulty with the above.

It is now unlikely the computer systems will be up and running by the end of today.

Please do the following:
Power off all pcs and laptops
  • Press Ctrl+Alt+Del
  • Click on shutdown or hold the power button
  • Tell everyone else you see to do the same

To all medical staff
There will be no phlebotomy tests tomorrow and the laboratory is only able to function at 10 per cent capacity. Please limit your requests to urgent ones only and provide a fax number for the results.
