Workforce Planning and Development

Workforce Planning iconWhat sort of health workforce will Waikato need in 10 years’ time? How can we make sure the right number of people with the right skills will be working in the right places?

The aim of workforce planning is to get on the front foot – identify trends and future needs for the health workforce, and respond in a way that meets challenges and positively shapes the future.

Waikato DHB board approved two major workforce plans during 2009.
A Workforce Development Programme team implemented the projects identified from these plans during 2010/2011. Approved recommendations and outcomes/processes have been handed over to appropriate roles/departments/committees to be used or developed further as part of normal operations.

These plans are now completed, and a summary of each project and the outcomes are listed below.

Current plan

The latest Waikato DHB Workforce Plan 2012/2016 was approved by the board  in 2012, and a .5FTE resource is tasked with implementing the plan.

  • Programme sponsor: Fiona McCarthy, General Manager Human Resource.
