NETP Expansion Programme: Primary health and community care

A supported learning environment is central to delivery of the Waikato DHB Nurse Entry to Practice Expansion programme

Clinical placements

Registered nurse (RN) graduates are employed by partner organisations participating in the Waikato DHB NETP Expansion programme.

One rotation is offered but graduates are able to gain clinical experience in other settings in negotiation with the NETPE co-ordinator and the employer.

Orientation

There is a structured orientation both to the Waikato DHB NETPE programme and to the designated clinical placement.

Education

The education programme consolidates undergraduate education and develops knowledge and skills to enable RN graduates to become competent and confident registered nurses. The programme includes a series of shared study days, one post-graduate module (towards a PG Cert) and placement/provider specified learning and skill development.

Nurse Entry to Practice (NETP): Acute and rural hospitals

Mental health and addictions graduate nurse (BEST) programme

Professional development and recognition programme (PDRP)

The professional resources of the Waikato DHB Professional Development Unit assist RN graduates to complete, by the end of the NETPE Programme, a ‘competent registered nurse’ professional portfolio in an accredited Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP).

Preceptors

Each registered nurse graduate has an assigned preceptor/s who has completed an approved training programme. Preceptors, and other members of the clinical team, work alongside RN graduates and support goal setting and opportunities for reflection.

Support for Maori and Pasifika registered nurse graduates

Waikato DHB has a commitment to support the development of the Maori and Pasifika nurse workforce in the Waikato region.  Senior nursing support in Te Puna Oranga provides access to cultural and professional support for Maori and Pasifika RN graduates.
