Gynaecology

Our service is a great opportunity for you to gain experience in dealing with a variety of gynaecological conditions and treatments.

We have an outpatient department and a gynaecology ward comprising of 20 beds for those patients who require major surgery or emergency treatment of which there is the opportunity for you to observe / assist in theatre.

  • Cervical smears
  • Diagnosis & emergency management of ectopic pregnancy
  • Management of miscarriage
  • Colposcopy
  • Infertility
  • Contraception
  • Menopause
  • Management of vaginal bleeding
  • Acute abdominal pain in women
  • Investigation into urinary problems (gynaecological perspective)

There is the opportunity to complete the Diploma in Obstetrics provided through Auckland University. We would recommend spending six months in Obstetrics & Gynaecology for SHOs. We are an accredited unit for the RANCOG training programme.
