RadiologyThe training programme: The training programme at Waikato Hospital is one of the largest in New Zealand. Presently there are nine accredited registrar positions. The training course for the FRANZCR qualification is of five years’ duration. Examinations for Part I are in September of the first year and Part II in the fourth year, consisting of pathology and radiodiagnosis. 1st year registrar post: One or two positions for a first year Registrar are usually available each year. Requirements for applicants. Applicants should: - be New Zealand citizens or residents.
- have completed at least two years of post-graduate experience by the time the applicant expects to begin radiology training.
Application procedures: - Application is through a national matching scheme.

Employment contract: Registrars accepted for training are on an open-ended contract until completion of their five-year training period subject to satisfactory performance as assessed by regular performance reviews. Appointments for a sixth year will be considered to enable registrars to complete college exams, subject to otherwise satisfactory performance, but registrar training appointments beyond this will be unlikely. Requirements for continued training: Registrars are required to: - attempt Part I during their first year and have passed by the end of their second year.
- attempt Part II during their fourth and/or fifth year.
