The Upper Central North Island (UCNI) Training Programme

The programme runs under the auspices of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZAP) towards a Fellowship postgraduate qualification.

We have had several registrars successfully complete their training, which means that we now have opportunities for talented doctors to join our quality-training programme.

The training positions would be suitable for registrars planning to start vocational programmes. The course offers basic training and advanced training. Initial placements are in general adult psychiatry as required by the RANZCP bylaws, but with coverage of all the following areas:
  • community psychiatry
  • consult-liaison psychiatry
  • child and adolescent psychiatry
  • forensics
  • drug and alcohol
  • mental health for older persons
  • psychiatry of the intellectually disabled
  • psychotherapy
  • emergency psychiatry
  • family therapy
  • rehabilitation psychiatry.

The primary base of the UCNI programme is at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, with satellite training at Tauranga Hospital (three positions) and Rotorua Hospital (three positions).
