Clinical Nurse Specialist: Gerontology

Julie Daltrey Clinical Nurse Specialist - Gerontology Julie Daltrey was appointed to the position of clinical nurse specialist: gerontology in July 2008.

The main purpose of the position is to advocate for high standards of elder care across the Waikato District Health Board region through:
  • liason between the age related residential care sector, the primary care sector, and various Health Waikato services including the Older Persons and Rehabilitation Service, community-based aged care services, Mental Health Services for Older People, rural hospitals and district nursing services
  • integration and coordination of the Waikato DHB/community interface for older people with complex issues
  • progression of workforce development across the age related care sector
  • promotion of gerontological nursing.

The clinical nurse specialist: gerontology is actively involved in:
  • improving the access to education, training and professional development opportunities for staff working in age related care sector

  • promoting the use of best practice

  • improving the discharge process for people over the age of 65 with complex care needs.
The role sits within the Rural and Community Services of Health Waikato, the Waikato DHB’s provider arm.
