Nursing Research & Development UnitThe Nursing Research & Development Unit (NRDU), established in 2003, is a joint venture between Waikato
District Health Board and Graduate School of Nursing and Midwifery,
Victoria University of Wellington.
The Unit plays a pivotal role in
nursing research, scholarship and teaching, practice development and
the implementation of evidence based practice across the Waikato DHB.
The NRDU uses collaborative and facilitative strategies to blend
scholarship and research into clinical practice.

The aims of the NRDU
are: - develop nursing research, evidence based practice and practice development knowledge and expertise.
- develop a nursing culture that supports clinically driven, evidence based and client centred care.
- undertake and utilise the findings of clinically orientated research.
- develop systems and infrastructure that support research, evidence based practice and practice development.
These aims are to be achieved though a combination of three core activities: - Practice Development
- Research
- Scholarship and Teaching.
Practice developmentPractice development is a systematic process of practice enhancement the aim of which is to improve patient care. This rigorous process is enabled and supported by facilitators. These facilitators work with wards and units to assist them to develop their knowledge and skills and to identify areas for practice change.
