Pacific community action

HEHA Pacific icon
Waikato DHB has been identified as one of seven priority DHBs with a significant Pacific population and is committed to improving the health of Pacific people.

The rates of obesity for Pacific people in New Zealand are alarmingly high,
Pacific HEHA Plan 2008/10
80.9 per cent of Pacific males and 82 per cent of Pacific females in New Zealand are overweight (MoH, 2003). If there is to be a real impact on rates of non-communicable diseases, obesity must be addressed.

Waikato DHB has established a Pacific HEHA Community Action Group to provide support and advise on the implementation of the Pacific HEHA Workplan and the wider HEHA programme.
