Food Safety

Food SafetyThe Health Protection Unit Food Safety Programme aims to protect and promote the health of consumers by ensuring that food that is prepared and sold meets minimum health standards and is free from disease causing organisms. The programme is made up of the following parts:
  • providing advice and educational resources to the public, territorial local authorities and the food industry
  • assessment of food safety programmes for food premises and review of auditors reports
  • investigation of food complaints and food borne diseases, food hygiene issues and the enforcement of food legislation and food recalls
