The unit employs more than 200 staff from a range of professional groups i.e. nursing, medical, sterile supply assistants, clerical, anaesthetic technicians, hospital aids, attendants. We carry out approximately 18,500 operations and 20,000 anaesthetic procedures (hospital wide) every year.
Current services
Main Theatres
- Level 2 theatres = six theatres
- Level 3 theatres = six theatres
Eye Theatre
- Level 7 theatre - Theatre 17 = one theatre
Day Surgery
- Level 8 theatres = three theatres + SDA
SDAU
Is accommodated on Level 8, Menzies
Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
Central Sterilising Unit
This unit is open seven days a week, 7am to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 5pm Saturday, Sunday & public holidays.
Miscellaneous services
We provide anaesthetic cover for special procedures in Radiology department, Oncology, Psychiatric Unit and Pain Clinic, as well as providing assistance to peripheral hospitals of Health Waikato. News
