Emergency Departmentback to Services listing Our Emergency Department is the front door to the Waikato Hospital campus. Due to the wide geographical area covered by the Emergency Department, we provide a pre-hospital service that includes active involvement in air and road transport of critically ill patients throughout the central North Island.
The department sees approximately 68,000 patients a year, with 42 per cent admitted. The Emergency Department has two resuscitation rooms, 27 assessment bed cubicles, a separate paediatric area and an eight bed observation unit. We have a dedicated team of staff trained in emergency medicine. This creates a very professional environment in which to work. Construction began on a new Emergency Department in March 2008 and scheduled completion is late 2010.
