Breastfeeding

Waikato Hospital is a Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) accredited facility. Lactation Consultants attend to inpatient breastfeeding women and their babies and also facilitate an outpatient lactation clinic in the community for breast feeding at Plunket central.

The breastfeeding service strives to be experts in its field and dedicate its self to helping women and their babies overcome breastfeeding challenges.

Advice and information is also given to other health professionals from careplans for common challenges like plugged ducts and mastitis to drug medication enquiries. The service adopts evidence based research practice models and connects with the global professional Lactation Consultants network.
