The service treats all conditions affecting the ear, nose and throat, except otoneurology. Major head and neck surgery is a key feature of the service.

We are establishing an international auditing programme for clinical audits. We share the 16-bed inpatient area with ophthalmology. We place a great emphasis on ambulatory surgery.

There is a close alignment with the audiology service provides service to all age groups including neonates, and undertakes both inpatient and outpatient work. Services provided include audiology assessment, auditory brainstem response and other specialist assessments, hearing-aid assessment and fitting. 

The Newborn Hearing Screening Programme screens all newborn infants.

  • Clinical nurse manager and specialised nursing staff
  • Newborn hearing screeners.

We provide:

  • Opportunities for involvement in international clinical trials.

  • Education and training  in both formal and informal settings. We support senior RMOs in attending relevant courses and conferences in Australasia.

  • Outreach services extend to the Midland region and also include Thames, Tokoroa, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui.

  • Registrars have opportunities to have their own lists.
