Haematology

The department provides services including outreach clinics to the extended Waikato area, Bay of Plenty and the Lakes districts. Services include inpatient and outpatient care of patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. 

Haematology
Malignant conditions include acute leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and the management includes autologous stem cell transplantation. One of the haematologists has a specific interest in haemostasis and thrombosis and manages a haemophilia clinic.


Support for the Haematology Department comes from a transfusion service with a full time transfusion director. 


The Haematology Department comprises four consultant haematologists, a vocational registrar post and two haematology specialist nurses. There is an allocation of two rotational registrars and two house officers to the service.
