Parking at Waikato Hospital
Where can I park?
The primary parking place for patients and
visitors at Waikato Hospital is in the carpark building. The 18-level
building can hold more than 800 vehicles and provides direct lift
access to the hospital’s main buildings red corridor and Transit Lounge.
How much will it cost?
Waikato Hospital has a user-pay system
for staff, patients and visitors who wish to park on-site. The prices
for patients and visitors are as follows:
| Length of stay |
Cost |
| Less than 30 minutes |
nil |
| 30 mins to 1 hour |
$1.50 |
| 1 hour to 2 hours |
$3.00 |
| 2 hours to 3 hours |
$4.50 |
| 3 hours to 4 hours |
$6.00 |
| 4 hours + and maximum charge per day |
$7.50 |
All charges are GST inclusive
How do I pay?
The carpark building works on an automated pay system. This means that as you enter the building you will be required to take a ticket and have this ticket validated at one of the parking payment machines before returning to your vehicle.
Parking payment machines are located on levels B5 (ground), B3 (Transit Lounge) and L1 (main enquiries). When you are ready to leave Waikato Hospital you will need to go to one of these machines and insert your ticket. The machine will then tell you how much you need to pay for parking and once payment has been made your ticket will be validated for exit.
You must then immediately go to the exit in your vehicle and insert your ticket into the machine to raise the barrier arm.
Pay and display
As construction for different projects end, smaller parking areas within the Waikato Hospital grounds will be designated for patients and visitors. Payment for these areas will be through a prepaid ‘pay and display’ system.
This means that once you have found a park, you will need to go to the nearest ‘pay and display’ machine before you leave your vehicle to enter hospital buildings, and pay the required amount according to the desired time you wish to stay on the rate board on the machine.
When you put your money into the machine a ticket will be printed for you to place on your vehicle dashboard. This must be prominently displayed so that parking enforcement staff can see you have paid for your time to be there.
Staff will be strictly monitoring these areas so make sure you pay for the correct time and go back to your vehicle before this time runs out.
If your time runs out you can pay for a new ticket.

Concession parking
If you visit Waikato Hospital frequently during a week, there is a seven-day carpark building ticket for $7.
These tickets provide you with unlimited carpark building access for seven days. You can buy seven-day carpark building tickets from the Parking Control Office but first you need to get authorisation and complete a form from the ward or department you are visiting.
Disabilty parking
Most of the disability parks are in the parking building. There are four on every floor (18 floors) very close to the lifts, and the first two floors of the building are dedicated to disability parking. One floor has high ceiling so suitable for the higher disability vans. The charges to park in the building are all the same, irrespective of disability or able-bodied.
There are a few external mobility parks. There are two outside the back entrance of Hilda Ross house with a time limit of two hours maximum. There is one at the East Entrance, one at Dialysis and one at Rheumatology. There are also two outside Hockin Building front entrance and two at the Menzies entrance. All of these parks are free of charge. However, as the campus redevelopment proceeds, these external parks may change or disappear.
