Education
Our education focus is clinical practice and we provide approximately 15 study days per year, facilitated by the NETP Programme Co-ordinator and Nurse Educator.
Graduates appointed to the rural campuses of Thames, Tokoroa, Te Kuiti, and Taumarunui have the same programme and will attend the Waikato campus for their study days.
During the first week of employment is orientation where there is a comprehensive overview of services provided at Waikato DHB including sessions on Manual Handling. Level 4 resuscitation certification, Role Transition, PDRP.
Throughout the years there are further study days including pain management, diabetes and Reflective practice.
These sessions will be taught by the Nurse Educators (NEs) and Clinical Resource Nurses.
During the second rotation/clinical placement, graduates will complete one 20 point paper toward a post graduate certificate. The paper is Physical Assessment for Advanced Nursing Practice, provided by Auckland University of Technology (AUT) on the Waikato Campus. This paper will be taught by a senior lecturer from AUT and supported by NE’s from Waikato DHB.

Clinical practice
During the recruitment process you will be asked to provide 6 choices of areas you would like to work in for the year. If you are successful, and gain employment your clinical placements will be planned around your choices before the programme begins. Your preceptor will have attended a Preceptor workshop to consolidate their skills in this role. After this time you are encouraged to choose a mentor to guide your practice for the remainder of your time in the ward.
