Waikato DHB covers nearly eight per cent of New Zealand’s land area, and is home to 360,270 people. It is the most populous district health board in the Midland region. Waikato has lush, green hills, bush and farmland, with exceptional surf on the west coast and glorious beaches on the east coast.

Waikato DHB is responsible for planning, funding and providing quality health and disability support services for the 360,270 people living in the Waikato DHB region. It has an annual turnover of $1.1 billion and employs more than 5800 people.

Health Waikato is the DHB’s main provider of hospital and health services with an annual budget of more than $606 million and 4740 staff. It has seven divisions across five hospital sites, two maternity and continuing care facilities, a mental health facility and 21 community bases offering a comprehensive range of primary, secondary and tertiary health services.

A wide range of independent providers delivers other Waikato DHB-funded health services - including primary health, pharmacies and community laboratories.

The Waikato DHB region encompasses our base hospital (Waikato Hospital) in Hamilton, and our rural hospitals at Thames, Tokoroa, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui.
