GP Liaison

Linda Rademaker, previously of Glenview Medical Centre, was appointed to the position of GP Liaison Officer in May 2002. The main purpose of this position is to provide Health Waikato with a primary sector perspective on operational processes and to provide a link between hospital staff and primary services. Linda works with primary and specialist practitioners to strengthen awareness of the opportunities that exist for improving patient services.

The GP Liaison is actively involved in the clinical governance structure of Health Waikato and in several major projects, such as Service and Campus Redevelopment, giving general practice a real voice within the organisation. By acting as a catalyst for improvement in the management of patient flow between the sectors, the intention is to achieve more effective and efficient delivery of care to patients.

The possibilities of the role are infinite, but the best solutions have to be practical and sustainable. Meaningful outcomes are only possible with the support and collaboration of colleagues in both primary and secondary care.
