Mammogram reminder to Breast Screen Midland women
Mammograms can find very small cancers before a lump can be felt and Clare Coles is encouraging Waikato women who are aged 45 to 69 to join BreastScreen Aotearoa if they are not already part of the programme.
“October is Breast Cancer Action Month, and the perfect time for Waikato women to have a think about the benefits of breast screening.
“Women aged between 45 and 69 who are not already part of BreastScreen Aotearoa can register to enrol on-line by going to www.breastscreen.govt.nz, or ringing the freephone number 0800 270 200.
“And if you are part of the programme, but have been putting off having your regular mammogram, why not go and get it done! It only takes a few minutes and could save your life.”
New Zealand’s free national breast screening programme checks women for signs of early breast cancer.
“Only 60 percent eligible women were screened in the two years ending 30 June 2011, which is still well below the programme target of 70 percent. There are still about 15,000 women in the Waikato region not enrolled in BreastScreen Aotearoa. Enrol today! It is free, quick and easy!” |
