Arrangements for Hamilton GP Suresh Vatsyayann patients

Enrolled patients of suspended Hamilton GP Suresh Vatsyayann, will still have access to primary health care services.

Despite Dr Vatsyayann’s temporary suspension from today (Friday 5pm) by the New Zealand Medical Council, his medical centre, The Family Clinic, will not close.

The Family Clinic is part of the Toiora Primary Health Organisation Coalition.

The clinic’s registered nurse will be available at the clinic to triage and provide nursing care for patients.

Those requiring GP services will be referred to Anglesea Accident and Medical Centre in Hamilton.

Some patients may choose to enrol at other practices in Hamilton that are funded by Waikato DHB to provide very low cost access to primary care.

Prices for a normal consultation at these practices during business hours will be:

  • free of charge for those up to 5 years old;
  • $11.50 for those 6 to 17 years old; and
  • $17 for those 18 and older.

The practices charging these rates are:

  • Te Kohao/ Miro o te Ora
  • Dr. P Spry
  • Radius Medical
  • Beerescourt Medical Practice
  • Dinsdale Medical Centre
  • Grandview Medical Centre
  • Wintec
  • Redicare Family Practice
  • Tuhikaramea Medical Centre
  • Student Health Services Waikato University
  • Nawton Clinic
  • Enderly Park
  • Te Rapa Medical Clinic

From Monday 30 August, a GP will be available part time weekdays at The Family Clinic.

Please call the clinic for appointments.

Negotiations are ongoing in the hope an additional GP will be available to ensure full GP coverage during normal business hours at the clinic.

Patients have had initial advice of the change to service delivery via letter. The additional details contained in this media release will be provided by another mailout to patients, who will also be advised of any further changes as they arise.

If enrolled patients of The Family Clinic have any concerns about GP charges, or queries, they should leave a message at 0800 100 178.

All messages left during business hours will be promptly responded to.
