New nurse manager position Waikato Hospital Leigh Singers takes up the new position of Waikato Hospital nurse manager, operations from November 23. It is the first of the nurse manager positions reporting to Waikato Hospital nursing director Suzanne Lawes and is part of the new structure identified in the hospital’s nursing and midwifery project earlier this year. Mrs Singers, 41, trained as a registered comprehensive nurse at Waikato Polytechnic, graduating in 1989. She worked as a nurse in Auckland and the UK before returning to Hamilton where she worked at Waikato Hospital for 10 years in a variety of operational management roles. Most recently she has been acting service manager, nursing services where she is responsible for patient flow and the hospital's inpatient wards. A significant focus for her in the last 18 months has been on capacity planning and patient flow. This has included the pilot and implementation of CapPlan, development of a capacity and bed plan which reflects facility and nursing resource requirements to meet demand and development of tools to support these processes. "I look forward to being able to focus my attention on the operational management aspects of Waikato Hospital and the challenges this role will present including implementation of the bed management policy, the ongoing development of capacity and resources planning processes, and working within a new structure to ensure integrated operational management and planning," she said.
