Best nursing job in New Zealand on offerAs nursing jobs go, it’s a biggie and that’s why Waikato District Health Board is looking at an innovative way to promote the Waikato Hospital nursing director’s position. The usual front-page presence on www.waikatodhb.govt.nz is gone for the week and in its place is the question: Looking for the best nursing job in NZ? Waikato DHB director of media and communications Mary Anne Gill said the new position was likely to attract international interest. “This person will be responsible for more than 2100 nurses at Waikato Hospital. It would suit someone who can change cultures within an organisation and who has the drive and perseverance to finish what they start.” The DHB used standard recruiting methods but also decided to bring the job from the vacancy section onto the front page of the internet. “Last month we got more than 153,000 hits to our website from all over the world - more than 80 per cent of them looking for jobs in the health sector. “We know that because we can track their search words.” Hits came in order from New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, India, Philippines, Germany, South Africa, Singapore, Ireland, Netherlands and Austria. Within New Zealand, there was plenty of interest in jobs at Waikato DHB from Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Palmerston North. “So I guess what we’re hoping is that someone will see that job advertised and either think it’s got them written all over it or will know someone that could do the job,” said Mrs Gill. It’s not the first time Waikato DHB has thought outside the square when it comes to recruitment. Earlier this year it was the first DHB to use a rugby field to promote working in the Waikato. The sign written advert on Waikato Stadium for the Chiefs vs Sharks Super 14 match said: Health professionals work in Waikato - followed by the website address. “We know that worked. Hits to our website, particularly from South Africa, increased markedly and many of those continue to come to our site,” she said.
