Warriors visit Waikato HospitalAhead of the Vodafone Warriors' preseason trial against the Melbourne Storm in Hamilton tonight, the team found time to visit some of their little fans at Waikato Hospital yesterday. Warriors' captain Steve Price and team mate Jerome Ropati visited the patients in the hospital's Orthopaedic and Children's wards – and made many a day in hospital, better. One patient in particular was very pleased to see the men in black, following surgery this morning on his broken arm. Five-year-old Oliver Assen from Hinuera and his mother Irene were pleased to have the distraction of Price and Ropati's visit, rather than waiting to hear when Olly would be going home. The Warriors had a tight schedule one day out from game day, visiting numerous schools and other organisations as well as Waikato Hospital. Peter Grant from major sponsor Vodafone hosted the team's Hamilton tour. "The Warriors are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to give back to some of the community who have given so much to them," said Peter. "Everybody admires, and is inspired by the boys playing the game; however there are incredibly inspirational people out there everyday like the ones we met at Waikato Hospital today; facing adversity with a smile and soldiering on. "We feel honoured to have met all the people we met today." ENDS Date: February 12 |
