Thank You Day

Organ Donation New Zealand (ODNZ), in conjunction with Kidney Health New Zealand is organising a Thank You Day on World Kidney Day 8 March, 2012.

Throughout New Zealand transplant recipients will be planting freesia bulbs (generously donated by Oderings) in public places to say thank you:  Thank you to their donor, donor family, health professionals, support people, employer – anyone who has helped them on their transplantation journey.

The freesias symbolise the new life the recipients have been given.

Recipients will also be wearing white t-shirts with Thank You written on them in different colours and in different languages.

The goal is to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation and to encourage people to talk to their family and friends about their wishes should they ever be in a position where organ donation is possible.

The Thank You Day is taking place during Kidney Awareness Week. The theme for Kidney Awareness Week this year is transplantation and organ donation (of all organs—not just kidneys).

Hospitals throughout the country will also be involved.

Visit the Organ and Tissue Donation web page for more information.
