This page provides key information and dates about the 2010 DHB elections. District Health Boards are made up of seven elected board members and four ministerial appointed board members. The Minister of Health also appoints the chair and deputy-chair for each DHB. Elections are held every three years at the same time as the local body elections.
Triennial elections for elected members of all local authorities throughout New Zealand, including district health boards, are conducted, by postal vote, from Friday 17 September 2010 with close of voting at midday Saturday 9 October 2010. The elections are conducted under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001 and the New Zealand Public Health & Disability Act, 2000. City/district councils conduct the district health board elections on behalf of the district health boards.

Governance in Health
Nominations open this week for the election of board members to the 20 district health boards across the country. While that news will probably not rock the nation, health is nevertheless a vital public service that regularly affects the lives of every family if not every individual. The cause is worthy and deserves the best at all levels, and that definitely includes in the boardroom.
