Schools painting competition

posterThe 2009 Hamilton Boys High School and Waikato DHB Painting Competition “Transfusion” is about the power of art, and the power of the artist to influence the lives of others for the better. By donating artwork to the hospital young artists can be assured of public appreciation of their work, and be doubly sure that their art will make a real and lasting impact on the lives of others.

The competition is open to Year 12 and 13 Painting students. The work may form part of an NCEA submission at 2.2 or 3.2., or may be produced specifically for the competition.

You have the freedom of painting whatever you like providing you do not produce artworks likely to offend the wide range of people who attend the hospital.

The works may be, but are not limited to portraiture, landscape, documentary or contemporary art. You may enter up to four paintings.

The work from the competition will be displayed at the Waikato Museum of Art and History between Friday 3rd July and Monday 3rd August 2009.

Prizes are in the form of art materials and related merchandise from the following:
  • National Art Supplies
  • The Warehouse Stationery, Ulster St.
  • The Framing Workshop
  • Waikato District HealthBoard
  • Hamilton Boys’ High School
Winners will be announced in the Waikato Times on Saturday 4th July.

To enter, please complete this official entry form and forward it with your painting works (one entry per painting) by the closing date. All applications must be on the official entry form or a copy of it.

Please refer to the terms and conditions for information on entry specifications, eligibility criteria, packaging, and other requirements. You may enter up to four paintings works in the theme(s) of your choice.

Works may be in any medium, and must be on stretched canvas 10 x 10’ or 10 x 12”.

Art departments may purchase canvas at a reduced cost from National Art Supplies or The Warehouse Stationery, Ulster Street Hamilton.

Entries must be submitted at a standard ready for exhibition i.e. dry, with string or cord stapled across the rear of the stretcher. Entries not of exhibition standard will not be considered.

Entries deemed of unsuitable content for display will not be considered and art department heads notified.

Entries must be posted, hand-delivered or freighted to be received by 5pm Friday 5th June 2009 to:
